The Cutter's have bombed out of the 2010 XXXX pre-season cup, going down to the Manunda Hawks & the Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs in hot & blustery conditions at Cazaly Stadium.
The day was never going to an be easy task with the Cutter's drawing the opening two games of the competition, two consecutive games in the hottest part of the day 1.00 & 1.50pm.
The Cutter's coaches taking the opportunity to swap and change things around, as they fine tune the side for round 1 on March 27th. Coach Rob Douglas said later that he took a lot of positives from the games, and could not fault the endeavor of his side. Things were a bit rusty out there, not only for the Cutter's.
In the first game the Cutters took on the Manunda Hawks, the Cutter's kicking with the wind to the northern end of the ground. The Cutter's kicking inaccurate scoring one goal four, whilst at the other end the Hawks scoring two goals two to lead at the half time break.
The blustery conditions played havoc for the Hawks in the second half as they put on one goal six, with the Cutter's managing the one goal against the wind.
The final score Cutter's 2.4.16 to the Hawks 3.8.26 Goals to the Cutter's Robbie Kingdom and Matthew Werner.
The second game was not going to be an easy task, the players showing some signs of fatigue in the hot Cairns weather. Their opponents this time Centrals Trinity Beach with fresh legs.
The Cutter's this time kicking against the wind manages just a solidary behind, whilst the Bulldogs kicked three goals two with the wind.
With the wind in the second half the Cutter's again were inaccurate kicking one goal three behinds. The Bulldogs had no problems at the other end again outscoring the Cutter's kicking three goals three against the wind. The final scores, Cutter's 1.4.10 Bulldogs 6.5.41 Cutter's goal kicker Cam Campbell.
